You can take it to the bank...

I always enjoy meeting new prospective customers. As we exchange pleasantries and greetings, usually with Tami at my side, the elephant in the room is usually the cost of the project. This is understandable of course. We all live in a real world that, like it or not often revolves around our financial position. Can we afford it? Can we put the work off until our tax return comes in?
These are real-life concerns and I get that. Other times it’s not just a question of economics, but whether the repair is even necessary for a home sale or another concern. I believe many contractors are simply self-serving, providing a low-quality product for a high quality price. They speak in “constructionese” terms to baffle the homeowner and paint a bleak picture of how bad the condition is and how the expensive proposed repairs are their only option. I could play that game, but I won’t.
Recently a homeowner was quite surprised when they asked me about repairs they thought were necessary. By the end of the conversation I had reassured them that in my opinion, nothing needed to be done. They looked stunned, but were very pleased, thanking me profusely for NOT giving them what they expected to hear. We parted ways and I went on with my day, feeling like I had done my job.
Our tag-line on our business cards reads, “Live Every day Lovin’ What You Do.” I can rest easy at night and carry myself with confidence each day knowing that I do “Love what I do.”
If you ask me to build your deck, remodel your bathroom, or install your flooring, don’t be surprised if I come back with cost-saving ideas or remedies or revisions to your design which are perhaps simpler and easier on the wallet. I want to see that smile when we’re done, knowing that you are satisfied and may call us back. I’m not always the least expensive, but am always willing to work together with you to make the project fit into your budget.
Don’t be surprised however if I give you a different answer than the other contractors. I have to live here in this small community. You are my neighbor. We walk our dogs on the same beach. I will serve you with the work ethic my father taught me. You can take that to the bank!
